Help Families Shine

Meet Manjeri

Manjeri is one of the women in Shine’s empowerment program. This video follows her for the day to share with you what life is like for in the village trying to provide for a family. Manjeri is 75 years old and cares for 6 of her grandchildren. While in the empowerment program, her children’s education is provided—something most of them had not been able to have in years. As she works with our social worker to develop her business plan, Manjeri is preparing for graduation. Every lady that graduates will receive a grant to launch their business. Please watch the video to see her typical business day and imagine what a difference capital can make to launch Manjeri’s new business.

Update 01.25.23

We are heartbroken to share the passing of Manjeri last week. She has been a part of Shine since the very beginning and worked hard to care for her family. Her grandchildren are thriving in Shine’s educational program, and we will continue to provide that for them. Michael is her second oldest grandchild and he was recently promoted to S3 after excelling in S2—including As in Mathematics and Physics. Only 14% of children in rural Uganda ever even begin secondary school. Secondary schooling costs are exponentially higher than primary schooling, so any gift you might give below in Manjeri’s honor would be a huge blessing to her grandchildren’s lives. We are grateful for Manjeri’s life, her love for the Lord, and the way she joyfully allowed us to walk alongside her.
